AnxieTea: Herbal Sleep & Relaxation Blend
A Gentle Nighttime Ritual
AnxieTea was created out of both practicality and passion. After spending a small fortune on calming tea blends, I realized I already had every herb in my apothecary to create something just as soothing. This tea combines botanicals that herbalists and healers have leaned on for centuries to calm the mind, ease tension, and invite restful sleep.
Botanical Benefits
Valerian root (Valeriana officinalis) – Known since ancient Greece for its sedative properties, valerian enhances GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) activity in the brain. Recent clinical trials support its ability to improve sleep quality and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep.
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) – Traditionally used by Indigenous peoples of the Americas, this climbing vine supports relaxation and anxiety relief. Modern studies show it may reduce nervous restlessness by modulating GABA receptors, much like valerian.
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) – A beloved herb of European and Middle Eastern folk medicine, chamomile is rich in apigenin, an antioxidant that binds to brain receptors to ease insomnia. Science continues to validate its calming, anti-inflammatory, and digestive-supporting effects.
Rose petals (Rosa spp.) – Roses have long symbolized love and emotional balance. Their delicate petals carry mild anxiolytic properties and a soothing aroma that calms the heart as well as the mind.
Hops (Humulus lupulus) – Best known as the bittering agent in beer, hops have a long history in monastic and folk remedies for sleeplessness. Studies suggest their compounds, including humulone and lupulone, promote sedation and pair synergistically with valerian.
Spearmint (Mentha spicata) – Cooling and refreshing, spearmint eases digestive discomfort, which can improve sleep indirectly. Its gentle aroma also contributes to overall relaxation. Unlike peppermint, spearmint is non-stimulating and adds a natural sweetness to any blend.
Folklore Meets Science
From valerian’s use in medieval Europe as a “herbal tranquilizer” to passionflower’s reputation among Native American tribes for calming troubled spirits, AnxieTea blends folklore with modern research. Each herb has both tradition and evidence behind it, creating a holistic formula that soothes body and mind.
