Face Whipped: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Argan Oil
When I developed my Face Whipped butter blend, I did so with the intention of it being extremely healing for the delicate skin on our faces, necks, and hands. Naturally, the first oil that came to mind was Argan Oil, or as some call it, “Liquid Gold.”
Argan Oil
is so therapeutic because it’s rich with vitamin A and vitamin E. However, argan oil is also packed with antioxidants, omega-6 fatty acids, and linoleic acid. Research shows that when applied to skin, argan oil benefits include easing inflammation while moisturizing the skin” (draxe.com). Argan oil comes from Morocco, that beautiful country in Africa where just about all of the intensely rich and healing butters and oils are from. Also, according to draxe.com, “these slow-growing trees are so revered that in 1998 the argan forest was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.” That’s some powerful plant oil! Argan oil has many uses, but just a few are; acne treatment, moisturizing, cuticle care, razor burn relief, and hair conditioning. That’s why it’s at the forefront of my Face Whipped butter blend.
The next amazing carrier oil I wanted to add was Jojoba Wax (liquid wax, some call it jojoba oil). Historically, Native Americans used jojoba oil for treating sores and bruises. Jojoba is known for being one of the main carrier waxes/oils that is the closest to our skin’s own sebum. So when you apply it to your skin, it absorbs like it should without causing clogged pores. “Today, it’s commonly used to treat acne, psoriasis, sunburn, and chapped skin. It’s also used by people who are balding because it encourages hair regrowth. Because jojoba is an emollient, it soothes the skin and unclogs hair follicles.” Jojoba oil removes sticky buildup or excess oil, keeping your oil levels balanced. That makes it a strong natural treatment for eczema as well as a home remedy for acne, plus it’s well suited for other dry-skin conditions.
The Power of Essential Oils
The focal essential oils I wanted to incorporate needed to be gentle enough for the face, non-phototoxic, and honestly just smell really good too. I played around with Sweet Orange, Neroli, and Frankincense until it was perfect and came up with a sweet and delicate aroma that would rival any perfumery.
Found on Aromaweb regarding Neroli and its many uses and benefits, it is good for “depression, frigidity, insomnia, mature skin, scars, shock, stress, stretch marks.” [Julia Lawless, The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils (Rockport, MA: Element Books, 1995), 59-67.] I’ve always loved Neroli for its intoxicating aroma, its help in the relaxation battle, and its amazing benefits to blood pressure. It comes from the blossom of the orange tree, so I knew it would pair well with sweet orange, and the frankincense would balance out any overly sweet notes while adding healing properties to the blend.
Frankincense
We all know Frankincense is the king of all oils, but I wanted it specifically for its skin-healing and toning properties. Perusing Organicfacts.net, I found: “The astringent property of Frankincense oil has many benefits. It strengthens the gums, hair roots, tones, and lifts skin…This astringent quality also reduces the appearance of wrinkles.” Seriously, why wouldn’t you use it in a face blend?! “When applied topically or inhaled, it can make the scars and marks of boils, acne, and pox on the skin fade at a much faster rate. This also includes the fading of stretch marks and surgery marks.”
How to Use Face Whipped Butter
After cleansing, apply a small amount of the whipped butter to your face, neck, and hands. Gently massage in circular motions to promote absorption. Use it as a daily moisturizer, nighttime treatment, or even as a hydrating mask for extra nourishment.
