Why I Created the Urinary Balance Elixir
I designed Urinary Balance Elixir for those moments when the urinary system feels “out of sync.” I developed a milder version of this for a friend years ago and then added onto that first recipe to get here. In my personal experience, the most effective way to support the bladder and kidneys is through a “flush and soothe” approach. I use a concentrated 2:1 menstruum-to-herb ratio, with a base of 62% Everclear and 15% water, to ensure I extract the potent antiseptic resins and the mineral-rich nutrients required for pelvic health.
The Herbal Allies: Ingredients & Action
| Common Name | Scientific Name | Why I Included It |
| Uva Ursi | Arctostaphylos uva-ursi | Contains arbutin, historically used to create a clean, balanced environment within the urinary tract. |
| Cornsilk | Zea mays | My favorite bladder herb; historically used by indigenous healers to coat and calm the delicate urinary linings. |
| Marshmallow Root | Althaea officinalis | High in mucilage |
| Gravel Root | Eutrochium purpureum | Also known as “Joe Pye Weed,” it is prized in folk medicine for encouraging the “washing out” of mineral deposits. |
| Dandelion Root | Taraxacum officinale | A potassium-rich “aquaphoretic” that I use to help the body move fluids without depleting minerals. |
| Nettle Leaf | Urtica dioica | I add Nettle for its deep mineral profile and its ability to support the kidneys in filtering waste. |
| Echinacea | Echinacea purpurea | A historically used immune herb that I include to support the body’s own natural defense response. |
| Parsley Leaf | Petroselinum crispum | A traditional kitchen herb that I find helps increase urine volume to effectively flush the system. |
Historical Wisdom and Fluid Dynamics
I believe that a healthy urinary tract depends on clear, consistent flow. In folk medicine, discomfort often arises when the “waters” of the body become stagnant or “hot.”
The “Flush” Effect
Scientific research into Uva Ursi and Parsley suggests they work most effectively when the urine is slightly alkaline, helping to maintain a sterile and balanced environment. Historically, European herbalists used these specific plants to “scour” the kidneys and bladder of metabolic debris.
Soothing the “Heat”
When the urinary tract is stressed, it can feel “dry” or irritated. I rely on Cornsilk and Marshmallow Root to provide what herbalists call “moistening” qualities. These herbs contain complex polysaccharides that send a functional signal to the body to produce its own protective moisture.
Structural Support
I include Gravel Root because of its storied history in North American folk medicine for supporting the structural integrity of the urinary tubes, making it easier for the body to pass byproducts.
Suggested Use
For the best experience, I suggest supporting the “flushing” action with high hydration:
-
Application:Â 15 drops to 1 full dropperful.
-
Frequency: 3–4 times per day, as needed for urinary comfort.
-
Method: Dilute in a large glass of water. Drinking 8–10 ounces of water with every serving is essential to help the herbs do their job effectively. As always, room temperature water is best for the system.
Safety & Contraindications
*FDA Disclaimer: These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This    product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
I urge you to review these safety precautions:
-
Kidney Health:Â If you have a history of serious kidney disease, consult your physician before use.
-
Pregnancy: Do not use during pregnancy. Uva Ursi and Parsley in concentrated forms can affect uterine tone.
-
Short-Term Use: Uva Ursi is a “short-term” herb. I do not recommend using this specific blend for more than 7–10 consecutive days.
-
Lithium:Â Consult your doctor if you take Lithium, as diuretic herbs can affect how your body processes this medication.
